New Pavelski detective commercial

JOE PAVELSKI DETECTIVE COMMERCIAL, NOT AN EPISODE OF LAW & ORDER
Following in the footsteps of Joe Thornton and his friend Slappy, the Sharks recently unveiled this new Joe Pavelski commercial in the Bay Area. The simple premise: officer Pavelski is a bad detective, but a good hockey player.
Pretty good effort, but they should have finished off with a Law-and-Order-esque one liner: "you think they can indict that ham sandwich?" Never watched CSI Miami, but David Caruso'sSource: Sharkspage RSS Feed

Thoughts on 30 for 30: Small Potatoes, Who Killed the USFL?

Mike Tollin named his first company “Halcyon Days Productions.”  The title fits, since that’s precisely how he portrayed the USFL in Small Potatoes.  The league was a flashy 80s production, rebellious, zany and fun.  It attracted big stars.  Most importantly, it was football, as evidenced with repeated, sonorous interludes from Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell.  Tollin awakens a forgotten league, a Wikipedia footnote to those of us under 30, but how successfully?

Mejia is good maybe very good...

Prior to becoming an analyst Keith Law was a highly regarded scout/player development guy so when he reviews a prospect I listen. I have to be honest, I was a little disappointed with the pitching line on Jenrry Mejia in his first AFL appearance but reading Law's review of him, even in that poor outing, has me excited that we may have a future top of the rotation starter in our farm. Mejia wants to make the majors this year, even if it's only in the pen. That maybe a stretch but I think weSource: Mets Fever RSS Feed

The Roundup: Bunny Boilers

Good morning all. Why are we up so damn early? For Heidi Klum? Perhaps. Kickoff nears so I’m going to need to lay down for a bit. I don’t want to sleep through the early games. Somebody order me a pizza while I nap. Alright? Thank you. Goodbye.

You, sir! Yes you, the poor schlub with $13.26 to his name, pointing to himself and mouthing the word “me?” to me! You may be a fat destitute, loser - we’re just assuming the fat part, but this is America, so that guess is pretty solid - but you can still watch the most exciting sports in the world!

Five Scariest Movies of the Last Decade

We should add three big words: That we’ve seen. That’s crucial. You’ve got a list here with movies that appear to be scary … we haven’t seen any of them. We don’t find the zombie genre scary (stupid? Yes), so there won’t be any of those flicks below. We’re probably seeing Paranormal Activity this weekend, and supposedly, it is a contender for scariest movie in the history of cinema. And we haven’t had a movie post in months …

Riggins Incinerates Redskins’ Coach, GM (Video)

Our older and/or better-read NFL fans will undoubtedly remember John Riggins, the eccentric, bruising running back of the Washington Redskins. He was the Super Bowl XVII MVP, but only after a contract dispute led to him sitting out an entire season on his own volition. Needless to say, he’s an iconoclast.

(That look then: badass. That look now: some combination of badass and homeless.)

He’s also a Redskin to the core, having played his final 10 seasons at RFK, leadingSource: SPORTSbyBROOKS RSS Feed

Gilbert Arenas Breaks Silence … For 95 Seconds

After being fined $25,000 by the league and team for not speaking to the media, Gilbert Arenas gave them 95 seconds after last night’s game.

Q: Anything to say about the fine?
Arenas: Nope.
Q: Encouraged by the win?
Arenas: Yeah. Both teams played hard.

We’ll miss the old garrulous Gilbert. But for a guy who hasn’t done anything in the league in the last two years, we fully endorse the move.

Canadian : I Kidnapped (Wooden) Thurman

An attempted theft of a helmet-misplacing Buffalo icon…or one anonymous hero’s brave effort to bring a tree-carved Thurman Thomas to safety across the Canadian border? The Buffalo News’ Gene Warner provides the details after the Bills’ horrific 6-3 loss to Cleveland on Sunday.

Waiting For Aquilani

How did it come to this? I’m resting my hopes for Liverpool’s season on an injured Italian midfielder who remains unproven in the Premier League. Alberto Aquilani, bought this summer for £20m to replace Xabi Alonso (if that’s possible) came to Liverpool a broken man. Hints that he’s been training and we could see him by the end of the month tickle at my expectations and curiosity. You see: apart from the fuzzy YouTube clips I’ve found, I have no idea what to expect of AlbertoSource: EPL Talk RSS Feed

The Pen Is Mightier Than The Fist : Sandomir’s Knockout Blow To Chip Carey

TBS’ Chip Carey is being castigated far and wide for his error-prone work this postseason, but no one’s been nearly as detailed in their critique as the New York Times’ Richard Sandomir. “If Caray’s crew could not keep him from spontaneously miscalling plays,” asked Sandomir, “you must wonder about his misuse of statistics. Is he receiving bad game notes, or is he conducting rogue research?”

Big Blue’s Kiwanuka : I’ll Never Play For Rush’s Rams

As mentioned earlier this week, hate fuck blowhard/pill popper Rush Limbaugh intends to team up with former MSG President Dave Checketts in an attempt to purchase the NFL’s St. Louis Rams.  As such, salutations to the New York Daily News’ Ohm  Youngmisuk for pestering someone for comment besides Donovan McNabb.

From the AP: Photos from the front row

What would your photo album look like if you had front-row seats to every Yankee game for decades on end? It would probably be a thing of beauty with vivid photographs of seminal moments in Yankee history.

Well, although you and I do not enjoy this luxury in life, the Associated Press has. Photographers from the AP have been at every Yankee game for countless years. Now, to coincide with the first playoff series at the New Yankee Stadium, the AP is making 365 of these photographsSource: River Avenue Blues RSS Feed

For me, Dodgers-Eardinals Evokes Unique Memories

As a kid I was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. (Longtime readers of my blogs know this already.) It was natural. My hometown team, the Tulsa Oilers, was the club’s Triple-A farm team, so we regularly saw major leaguers in an Oiler uniform and the Cardinals came to Tulsa to play an exhibition once each season.

My dad also took my brother and me to St. Louis once a year to see the Cardinals play in Busch Stadium. He wasn’t particularly a Cardinals fan. In fact, my devotion Source: Ballers, Gamers and Scoundrels RSS Feed
